My interest with China began more than 12 years ago. I went to China to teach English to young Chinese students hoping to become a hero. But that position had already been taken by Mao Zedong, the man responsible for the deaths and suffering of millions of people. Everyone seems to be tripping over themselves to set up new cooperatives with China, in the belief that China will adopt Western ways. I saw them in China all the time. Universities personal – businessmen – NGO’s –people from the U.S. Government. The opposite is happening. What is happening is a reinforcement of the current conditions.
